Ireland- Grove Whitbed Portland Limestone
There is only 1 quarry in England that produces this type of stone. In the last century all the English and Irish government buildings and prestige buildings used this stone. The reason for this is, it was soft and easy to carve so it meant any good buildings had Portland Stone in it, externally and internally.
Sanderwood Stone have a proven track record of working with Portland Limestone.
Today, it is mainly used for restoration work or to match existing stone when building on new extensions. We have recently just completed a floor in Aras an Uactarain, also in City Hall and the best example would be Customs House.
Nowadays there are only 2 suppliers of this material, so it is expensive to buy. The reason it is so popular is it matures and ages naturally whilst maintaining its colour and characteristics throughout. It is easily identified compared to other stones.
